The Quarterly Newsletter of Peace Action Maine
Report on 2005 Common Ground Country Fair

Once again, Peace Action Maine reached thousands of activists, folks looking for information, and friends, both old and new at the annual Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) Common Ground Country Fair.

At our Social/Political booth, the Priority Poll was a hit again this year. Many volunteers helped us distribute educational materials and sell Peace Action Maine merchandise.

Once again, our “Give Peas A Chance” pea soup, made from delicious, organic ingredients, won an award! Independent food judges gave our soup the “Best Vegan Food” award. We are happy to know how much fairgoers enjoy our soup. Darcy & Jim Austin wrapped up their last year at the helm and Peace Action Maine is actively seeking two people to provide onsite supervision for next year’s soup booth.

We want to thank the Maine farmers who provided ingredients for the soup and the bread that goes with each cup:

  • Andy Birdsall, Horsepower Farm — veggies, herbs
  • Martha Gottlieb — garlic
  • James Sillin, Under the Sun Farm — onions
  • Marcia Ferry, Peacemeal Farms — potatoes, herbs
  • Dean Zoulamis, Good & Plenty Farm — bread

This was a very successful Fair for us. We appreciate all of the help we had from our stalwart volunteers. If you plan to attend the Fair next year, please plan on spending a couple of hours helping us maintain and build on our longtime relationship with MOFGA.

We would appreciate suggestions from Peace Action Maine members of other stores whose owners might be willing to stock our pea soup. Please call the office at 772-0680 with your suggestions!
