Peace Talk — Summer 2006
The Quarterly Newsletter of Peace Action MainePlease mark your calendar! Peace Fair 2006 will be held in Brunswick on Sat., August 5th from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. on the mall in the center of Brunswick. Again we commemorate the August 6th dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, reminding ourselves of the horror of nuclear war, of any war, and the urgent task before us: to create a culture of peace.
Invitations have gone out to peace and justice organizations, spiritual communities and people active in the creative arts, asking them to participate in Peace Fair 2006 and share with the public their ideas, materials, displays, interactive exhibits, poetry, music, and dance.
The Peace Fair seeks to offer information on the many ways of peace. Peace is not a passive theory for the few, but rather the rigorous and energetic effort by everyone to initiate cooperation and non-violent communication in large and small conflicts. An enlarged Conversation Café, a much-frequented tent at last year’s Fair, will again provide a place for discussion and dialogue on current events.
Last year’s Peace Fair, a participatory, interactive and visual event, drew hundreds of people of all generations from Brunswick and surrounding communities. We look forward to attracting an even larger and more varied crowd this year — part of our long-term goal to broaden the base and influence of PeaceWorks, dedicated to conflict resolution and peace making.
