Peace Talk — Summer 2006

The Quarterly Newsletter of Peace Action Maine
A Time to GROW

There are plenty of problems in the world — loss of liberties; government policies benefiting the corporate rich at the expense of everyone else; war and imperialism; lack of affordable health care, decent housing, and education; a polluted environment; attacks against immigrants and people of color — and those with the least economic and political power suffer the most.

In order to take back our power we have to ORGANIZE. In order to create a world that provides for the well-being of everyone, we have to ORGANIZE! In order to ORGANIZE we need to gather, learn, share and plan with each other.

That’s the idea behind GROW New England (GrassRoots Organizing Workshops), which holds its third annual organizer training/gathering for both new and experienced organizers and activists in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont on June 23-25, 2006, at the World Fellowship Center near Conway, NH.

The weekend (June 23-25) and Organizing 101 workshop on Friday, June 23 are ideal for those newer to social change work but also will offer plenty of learning opportunities for even very experienced organizers. Workshop topics include grassroots fundraising, building diverse networks and coalitions, using the media to support grassroots efforts, art and activism, and nonviolent direct action.

Cost for the 3 days in a beautiful setting in the White Mountains is $50-60, including food and lodging. Childcare is also available for those who preregister by June 17. Besides all the good information, there will be plenty of time for relaxation, fun, and getting to know others at GROW.

All PeaceTalk readers are invited to find out more and to come to GROW New England. For more information and a mail or email brochure, contact Larry Dansinger, 525-7776 or invert@acadia.net.
