Peace Talk — Autumn 2006

The Quarterly Newsletter of Peace Action Maine
Participate in the Wall Street Anti-War Rally on Columbus Day/Native American Day

Conquest of foreign lands for riches is an old story. On the birthday of the Grandfather of Invasion, Empire, and Colonialism, peacemakers are invited to come to New York City to demonstrate against the financiers and profiteers of the War on Iraq.

Join Peace Action groups and others from around New England, New Jersey, and New York. Rally, sing, march, and drum up and down Wall Street highlighting the connection between war and profit. Speak to the fact that there would be no war if there were no profits to be made. Call out the ones making the profit and reveal their connections to the U.S. administration. Companies like Halliburton and Kellogg Brown & Root have made profits from every phase of the war including “military build-up prior to the war, the conduct of the war, and the restoration of Iraq after the War,” according to Rep. Henry Waxman. Shift the focus to the center of power in our country that’s responsible for the invasion of Iraq.

Speakers will include Tiokasin Ghosthorse from First Voices at WBAI Radio in New York City, a representative of War Resisters League of New York City, and others.

Let this be a start for people to take more direct action including boycotts, shareholder actions, publicity campaigns, and consumer pressure on the money-making center of power in our country that’s profiting from the war.
