Rescheduled!! Cuba Myth-Busting: An On-the-Ground Report from Havana

Zoom with Conner Gorry,  introduction by Cynthia Howard* (recently returned)
Unforseen events
have caused us to reschedule this event.
Thank you for your understanding and we wil post any new date as schedules permit.
Beginning a discussion:
- There are no plans for a "thaw" and most Cubans consider Biden a real disappointment
- Mainers and all folks can help by staying informed from reliable/less biased sources; travel to Cuba; support solidarity drives for materials; write to their representatives; broaden the circle of supporters to include the youth and BIPOC/LGBTQ populations (the revised family code, now being debated nationwide at the neighborhood level is a great entry point--debates conclude in April and legislation will be finalized not long after); be informed on Cuba's COVID vaccines and protocols
- Information about daily life is Conner's bread and butter at www.hereishavana.com;  also  suggest Juventud Rebelde, Cubadebate, Periodismo del Barrio, Tribuna de la Habana, the Daily Beast video series.

Since 2002, journalist and writer Conner Gorry has been based in Havana, from where she covers Cuba’s health system as Senior Editor for MEDICC Review and other outlets. Conner is the only foreign correspondent who has reported from within the Henry Reeve Emergency Medical Team during post-disaster situations in Pakistan, Haiti and elsewhere. In 2013, she founded Cuba Libro, a community project and the only English-language bookstore and coffeehouse on the island. Her latest books include 100 Places in Cuba Every Woman Should Go, Cuban Harlistas, Mi Amor, a fine photography book dedicated to the Cuban Harley-Davidson family, and TWATC, a collection of essays. She has written over 20 guidebooks for Lonely Planet and other publishers. She blogs at wwww.hereishavana.com.
