"Consider President Biden’s proposed $33 billion in additional aid to Ukraine. Twenty billion
of it is for weapons, eight billion for humanitarian relief, and five billion for economic recovery.
The proportions in the package speak volumes"**.

This Saturday, May 7,  Peace Action Maine joins the International Day of Action- calling for peace in Ukraine: ceasefire, the withdrawal of Russian troops, an end to NATO military escalation and for all efforts to be focused on finding a negotiated solution to this terrible war. #PeaceInUkraine!
Unlike the March 6th Day of Action on the streets of Portland for #PeaceInUkraine (thank you to the many who did!), we are focusing on contacting our Congressional Delegation and sharing those steps we believe are needed to bring this awful war to a negotiated close. We are in solidarity with other groups: PeaceInUkraineWILPF US, World Beyond War, VFP and StopTheWarCoalition. (Photo: contacting office of Representative Pingree, Portland, Maine)*

We all agreed that Putin's invasion is a moral abomination, while insisting that Mr. Connolly and Congresswoman Pingree press hard for an immediate cease fire leading to a stable negotiated settlement tolerable to and respectful to all parties involved. We emphasized that the primary goal should be a speedy end to the Ukrainian people's suffering, and that continued maneuvering for military-diplomatic advantage risks a far wider and more dangerous conflict. We stressed as well that any delay in ending Ukraine's agony for apparent reasons of state makes us complicit in Putin's own criminality.
