September 26, 2020 – The UN’s “International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons” “Nuclear weapons present an unacceptable danger to humanity. The only real way to eliminate the threat of nuclear weapons is to eliminate nuclear weapons.” – UN Secretary-General António Guterres
**Co-sponsors of this StandOut: Maine Veterans for Peace, PeaceWorks, WILPF Maine

Join us in this intersectional event demanding elimination of nuclear weapons. If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it is that our security comes from investing in public health and international cooperation, not in threatening to annihilate each other.

The nuclear weapon States continue to expand, maintain and deploy nearly 14,000 nuclear weapons, many on high alert, threatening our survival and the future of the planet. In addition, the nuclear-armed governments spend $100 billion per year on their nuclear arsenals.

Badger your Congressional Representatives, both state and federal, demand action to eliminate nuclear weapons:  "Start by reducing the Federal nuclear budget.  Put those dollars to use in life sustaining actions: Climate, healthcare for all, renewable energy, affordable housing, education, re-imagining policing, immigration reform to name a few."
