As you may recall, in mid-February the Senate passed a War Powers Resolution to block Trump from unilaterally starting a war with Iran. Stopping an unconstitutional war with Iran is absolutely imperative. This afternoon, March 11, S.J.Res.68  was again approved by the House(after returning from passage in the Senate). The bill  reclaims congressional war powers in regards to Iran.  Maine's congressional delegation all voted in support-here is today's House vote (227-186). Our calls and letters make a difference!

Remember, it was just a couple months ago that Trump dragged us to the precipice of war with Iran by unilaterally authorizing an assassination of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, citing the need to prevent an “imminent” attack. That turned out to be untrue, and we yet again came close to starting another war based on a lie. This demonstrates the urgency of the issue, and the necessity for Congress to assert its Constitutional authority to stand between the president and his very real propensity to launch a military strike against Iran. Since entering office, Trump has only escalated tensions throughout the Middle East. He’s abandoned working diplomacy in pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal; he’s filled his cabinet with war hawks;  he’s tried to ban people from Muslim counties from entering the U.S.; and he has defunded diplomacy in each of his proposed budgets.
