"Photojournalist Dmitri Baliakov was born in 1970 in the Vologda region of Russia."Having done national service in what was then the Soviet army, he began taking picutres wih a camera borrowed from his Latvian friend."(Ray Wells)
Since 1997 he has worked as a photographer for top world media outlets. He has covered seven conflicts, including the first and second Chechen war and the war in the Donbass area of Ukraine 2014-2019. At the time of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 he was in Armenia and concerned about several legislative laws, he and his family relocated to the United States.
